Hello, and welcome to a work in Progress...
I have recently added info to this page, and the graphics WILL take a long while to load... so please be patient...
This page will contain more pictures of my arcade renovation project as I have time to physically do more work, and then add the pics up here... if there are people bugging me about updates, I might be able to update this more often (hint hint)
I can be reached here: E_MALLORY_AT_YAHOO_DOT_COM
and now on to the show... (Latest Update - 05/15/03)
Well, here's a copy of the pic taken by the previous owner, and used on Ebay... was already re-sized by Ebay, so it should be a small file...
OK, it had to begin somewhere, so I decided to start by taking pics of the CP... Don't know whay, but I noticed that there were multiple layers of Vinyl, and figured it would be a good a place as any to start with the pics... especially if I was to uncover something good...
took another pic with the flash in case the other one was too dark... that's the plex at the bottom, followed by the (mangled) MK overlay (sections "pasted" together to fit a Joust cab... what WERE they thinking... maybe joust was no longer bringing in the cash, or the boardset had died... who knows...
Wow, this stuff just lifts right up off of other vinyl... took a pic here to show the condition of the vinyl under/over(?) lay... not in bad shape, but I had to see what was under it SO...
OK, now we're getting somewhere... this looks like it might be Joust art to my untrained eye... it sure was Purdy...
OK, now we're getting to a section where my heart dropped a beat... great looking Robotron2084 graphics up to this point... but what did they do past the 'curl' in the front of the CP???
AAARRRRGGGGHHH!! the horror... they didn't just slice it off in a straight line, they MANGLED it... what a mess...
More horror...
ok, time to peek inside...
Hmm, that's interesting... no drips from dinner... no - wait, it says 1982! Wow, that's old for a Robotron CP... didn't KLOV say Robotron was Released in 1982? Hmm, this must have been an early model unit...
OK, now for the useful pic... this pic may be useful for those trying to restore one of these CP's to former glory... Cig burns aside, consider the button / joystick holes as a "depth guage" when looking at the filler material... this should help those interested in trying to restore or build from scratch... the button layout uses 1 1/18th inch holes for the buttons, so those can be used as a frame of reference when measuring the size, and you can always email me if there are any further questions... in the mean time, I placed the MK "overlay" back over the bare wood, and installed buttons, and new Happs Ultimate joysticks... I am in the process of trying to figure out the best way to uncover the sideart without resorting to a belt sander (Evil Grin) - I have tried Goof Off, and got three round areas about 4-6 inches across cleared out, to verify it was a Joust cabinet, but I'm not the Karate Kid, and the Wax-On -- Wax-Off trick just didn't cut it... my shoulders screamed for 2 days :-)
Yes, from three little circles
and yes, I am a desk-Jockey, and yes, I do need to work out more... maybe this will be how I get into upper-body shape... doing the wax-on,wax-off thing for the sides of the Joust Cabinet :-)
Anyhow, that's the update for now... I'll post more soon when I have a chance to take more pics...
